Long Island’s Burger Scene

Ah, the burger: a timeless American classic and a staple on most mainstream American menus, regardless of the chef’s particular twist. A great burger can make a night out better, surprising you with its hidden flavors and combination of unexpected ingredients. Most people have a favorite burger or at least a favorite burger joint; some prefer cheese, others a special sauce, and some like theirs classic and plain. Whatever your burger preferences, Long Island has something to hit the spot.

Here are our four best burger stops on Long Island, so the next time you’re in town, you can have at least one (or four) of your meals already planned out.

Bareburger

If you’re on the hunt for an all-natural, organic burger experience, Bareburger is your dream destination on Long Island. The meat that Bareburger uses for their burgers is lean, fresh, all organic and, of course, absolutely delicious. You can choose from creations like the California burger, which comes with avocados, sharp cheddar cheese, tomatoes, raw red onions and salsa verde. The Maui Wowie features smoked mozzarella cheese, turkey bacon, fried onions, fresh pineapple, red peppers and buttermilk ranch. One of our favorites is the Brisket, which has hardwood smoked brisket piled high with raw red onions, pepper jack cheeses, butter pickle chips and smoked paprika mayo.

The Brass Rail

This delightful Long Island location serves us a real contender for best burger in their Sirloin Burger Au Poivre, which features mushrooms and caramelized onions covered with Swiss cheese and peppercorn sauce. The result is a true delight of flavors, high quality meats cooked to your preference and a fresh bun to boot. The atmosphere of the Brass Rail is also top-notch, and you won’t find any lack of cocktails or beer to help round out your meal.

They have a ton of options for beer, if you’re in the mood for a cold one, and the open dining room will ensure that you get to indulge in the atmosphere while you enjoy your meal. Their Chophouse Burger is a true Long Island stand out, with 10 ounces of hand formed, certified Angus beef, lettuce, tomato and onion, all packed deliciously together on a fresh bun.

Jackson Hole has been serving up amazing burgers, great service and unbeatable atmosphere in the New York City area for over 40 years. They’re the reputable home of the “7 oz. burger,” and their list of these aforementioned 7 oz. burgers is impressive indeed. They use only the freshest beef, buns and ingredients to concoct their famous burgers, and there are plenty on the menu to choose from.
